Introduction

Venmo is a popular mobile payment service that allows users to send and receive money quickly and easily. With Doggy Logs, you can add a Pay with Venmo button directly to your invoices, making it convenient for your clients to pay you.

  • Add a Venmo payment button to your invoices
  • Clients can pay directly from the invoice
  • No setup or integration process required — just enter your Venmo handle
  • Available for businesses using USD currency

Getting Started

On the Doggy Logs website, go to Settings and click on the Invoices tab. You will find the Venmo settings in the right column. To enable Venmo payments:

  1. Make sure your Currency is set to USD. Venmo is only available for US dollar invoices.
  2. Check the Accept Venmo checkbox. This adds a "Pay with Venmo" button to your invoices.
  3. Enter your Venmo Handle (your Venmo username, without the @ symbol).
  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

That's it! Your invoices will now include a Venmo payment option for your clients.

How It Works

When Venmo is enabled, your invoices will include a Pay with Venmo button. Clicking the button opens the Venmo app (or Venmo website) with your handle and the invoice amount pre-filled, so your client can review and confirm the payment.

Unlike Stripe payments, Venmo payments are not automatically tracked in Doggy Logs. After a client pays via Venmo, you will need to manually verify the payment in your Venmo account and then mark the invoice as paid in Doggy Logs.

Payment Instructions

In addition to the Venmo button, you can customize the Payment Instructions field in the Invoices settings to provide your clients with additional details on how to pay. This text appears on all invoices and in invoice emails.

For example, you might include instructions like: "Please pay via Venmo, or send a check to..."

You can also use the Invoice Message field to add any other notes or messaging that you want included on your invoices.

Security Considerations

Venmo payments work by generating a payment link that includes your Venmo handle and the suggested payment amount. Please be aware of the following important security considerations:

  • Payment links can be edited. Because the payment amount is included in the link, it is technically possible for a client to modify the amount before completing the payment. This means the amount paid may not match the invoice total.
  • Always verify payment amounts. Before marking an invoice as paid in Doggy Logs, check your Venmo account to confirm that the correct amount was received.
  • Venmo payments are not automatically reconciled. Unlike Stripe, Doggy Logs cannot automatically verify Venmo payments. You are responsible for confirming that each payment matches the invoice before updating the invoice status.

Venmo vs. Stripe

Doggy Logs supports both Venmo and Stripe for accepting payments. You can use one or both. Here's how they compare:
